I've never been much into fantasy - I've mentioned before, travel is my genre - but on recommendation by a friend, I loaned this book and fell deep under its spell. The series is one man's incredible story, a fiction laced with reality, similar to the world inhabited by Game of Thrones - a world in which dragons are real, in a sense, but to the majority of the characters, they are simply old myths. Our hero, Kvothe, can be unnecessarily arrogant at points, though he is bad-ass enough to support his egotistical antics. As I finished this novel, I fumbled for the next one, and soon found myself a foreigner in the sci-fi/fantasy section of Chapters, like an alien crawling through an unknown land. It was weird, and the book was too pricey for me to spend my tender Christmas funds on. So until I can order it online, I will suffer through a state of withdrawal. Don't say I didn't warn you. This book will blow your mind, if you let it. |
