It is rare to find a story that is both simple and compelling, but Forbes manages this in a very natural way. The well-written, distinctly Canadian story contains believable (though slightly exaggerated) characters that come to life in the readers intimate visualization. Unfortunately, the potential flavour and mystery experienced in the first few pages fades away quickly, as the storyline is almost too clear and easy to follow. The reader is given everything - perhaps too much - and left nothing to decipher on their own. Because of this. Forbes' audience starts to feel their intelligence undermined, and the ending is slightly spoiled. Therefore, the story's main qualities - it's simplicity and clarity - end up being its greatest weaknesses. The abrupt ending was rather unbelievable to me. It seemed silly and retracted from the established setting and character building I had enjoyed at the beginning.
